Engagement sessions are such a fun and special way to commemorate your recent engagement and capture the love between you and your future husband or wife. One of the biggest reasons that I love engagement sessions is because it allows for you and your fiance some time to get used to being in front of the camera.
This is no-pressure, uninterrupted, valuable time together that we get to spend getting to know each other and getting comfortable with posing and candid situations. Not to mention, we get to create BEAUTIFUL photographs representing your engagement–your love, your relationship, your story.
Let’s get into the nitty gritty! Engagement sessions last about one hour and you can expect a minimum of 25 edited images from the session. We’ll spend time getting you used to posing in front of the camera–I have some go-to prompts and poses that I like to use to help you get comfortable. I also always welcome any specific pose requests that you may have saved on your Pinterest board, so feel free to bring those along! Besides posing, I have some prompts that help encourage candid photo situations. I find it important to have a good mixture of photos in your gallery!
Let's talk outfits!
I include an optional outfit change in your session! A lot of couples like to bring a formal outfit and a casual outfit. Feel free to browse Pinterest for help on choosing an outfit for this.
Here are a few outfit tips:
-First and foremost, it’s so important that you feel comfortable and confident in the outfits you choose. This goes a LONG way in how you look in your photos, so keep this in mind when you’re deciding on what to wear!
-Solid colors tend to photograph really well–that’s not to say that all patterns are a no-no, but keep in mind that loud, bold, large patterns can be a little bit less flattering. Horizontal stripes can tend to give off a “widening” effect, whereas vertical stripes can be slimming. If you choose something patterned, try to go for subtle, low-contrast patterning.
-Try on your outfits beforehand with the undergarments you will wear. Nude undergarments are the least likely to show through clothing. Be aware of any bra straps and panty-lines that may show as well.
-Plan to keep your pockets empty, or as empty as possible. Phones and keys or lanyards can be distracting in men’s front pockets.
-Remember to remove hair ties from your wrists.
-Smart watches can tend to “informalize” outfits for ladies. Some clients don’t have a preference, so this is totally up to you.
-Please leave any sunglasses, hats, etc. that you do not want in the photos in the car.
If you’re nervous about your engagement session, don’t be! Relax and trust me. It’s ALWAYS such a fun time and there is absolutely no pressure or expectations. This is about capturing the beautiful love between the two of you. That’s it! Remember, I do this all of the time. You’re in good hands!
